Scantily Travelled is a vision of Matthew Chavasse and Marco Xuereb to bring food that has the least amount of miles on it to the city of Canberra.
Scantily Travelled is located on Yerrabi, a small farm located 35 minutes from the CBD of Canberra in the locality of Springrange, featuring the majestic Mount Spring. When it rains, water continues to pour out of the ground for days after, as the natural springs pop out of the ground in random places!
The family of livestock include Anglo Nubian Dairy Goats, East Frisian Dairy sheep, Guinea Fowl, laying hens and meat pigeons. The vision is set to include rabbits and sheep's milk cheese.
Cheese is currently produced at Yerrabi from a selection of the flock of East Frisian sheep for home use and shared with family and friends. This cheese is based on Maltese cheese recipes, with varieties including soft fresh, dried peppered and plain cheeses.
Guinea Fowl from Yerrabi have been made available at the Canberra EPIC Farmers Markets.
Pasture-fed hen eggs are supplied to Le Cheeserie in Belconnen to go into their legendary Basque Cheesecake!
Surplus sheep and goats are exported live around the world to farmers seeking to benefit from Australia’s disease-free status contributing significantly to the viability of the operation.
The plan is to scale up production of meat pigeons and eventually introduce Meat Rabbits.
Good things, slowly made.
